Parlogis Special

The role of Parlogis Special is to provide medicines and other health products that are needed but are only sometimes available in Iceland. In this way, Parlogis wants to do its part to try to prevent drug shortages and ensure the safety of patients in Iceland. Reasons may be a temporary lack of registered medicines or if it is necessary to provide drugs or health products that are not marketed in Iceland.

The employees of Parlogis Special have a lot of knowledge and experience in searching for medicines from other market areas, importing them to the country, and registering them as exempt medicines.

Parlogis has often imported drugs and other medicine for emergencies. That includes for example import of anti-venoms, rabies vaccines, haemophilia drugs, human skin in cases of burns, or an extra dose of medications for exceptional circumstances when usage is unusually high. Thus, importing is a race against time, where everyone must work well together to reach the set goal.

Parlogis Special has access to a vast network of suppliers worldwide, where years of cooperation result in an excellent partnership, which means that everyone works together to respond with speed and precision.

All processes within Parlogis are designed to respond quickly if an emergency arises and it is necessary to secure vital medicines or other health products for the country. Parlogis employees, foreign suppliers, and carriers work as a unit to get products into the right hands in the shortest possible time without relaxing quality requirements.

Lack of registered medicines:

In cases where there is a shortage of registered medicines, and there are no similar medicines on the market, we do our best to bridge the gap by temporarily importing exempt medication with the permission of the Icelandic Medicines Agency (IMA).

Tips about drug shortages due to a lack of registered drugs can be communicated to special@parlogis.is. Still, we note that marketing license holders must report drug shortages to the Icelandic Medicines Agency. Information about drug shortages of registered drugs and resources can be found on the website of the Icelandic Medicines Agency:

Medicines that are not marketed in Iceland:

Parlogis Special accepts requests for the search and import of medicines that are not available in Iceland but are needed and authorized by the Icelandic Medicines Agency. In those cases, the drugs are registered as exempt and only sold with an exemption from doctors and health institutions.

Requests and suggestions can be sent to special@parlogis.is

New exempt medicines are published in the medicine price list twice a month, on the 1st and 15th of each month.

More information on the prescription of exempted drugs and the drug price list can be found on the website of the Icelandic Medicines Agency.
